Released in 1977, « Nagual » was originally a score for the world creation of « Human Called Being » at the Shiraz-Perspolis Festival in the real presence of the Empress of Iran, Her Imperial Highness, Her Majesty, Chabanouh Farah Diba Palhavi. A set ( grand spectacle ) of dance and theatre by the famous american choreographer Carolyn Carlson Prima Ballerina of the « National Opera of Paris » directed at that time by Rolph Lieberman. Directly inspired by the legendary ethnologist Carlos Castaneda’s writings about his occult initiation and living experience at the side of the ancient tradition of the toltec masters, warriors-sorcerers, seers, masters of secret knowledge, the last of them - the nagual - being don Juan Matus, Castaneda’s master … and following the otherworldly steps of the first four albums (Les Fous d’Or, Logos, etc.), « Nagual » is another mysterious and intriguing statement of musical esoterica, albeit more calm and relaxed than before : all of it played on the keyboards (acoustic and electronic) by Igor Wakhevitch, a musical note book as a slide-show in music of twelve snapshots covering a wide range of styles from the majestic and glorious repetitive patterns played on Igor's electronic organ (« Chirakan Ixmucane ») … to « a golden rain shower » of very evocative electronic landscapes, refreshing and providing a lot of good to the soul like the rays of the sun : the very impressive ritual of two sorcerers
« Spenta Amarati » , or « Hunahpuguch » the supernatural dugout canoes sailing on an astral river danced by a trio of magic puppets on the beats of gloomy drums modified by electronic processing ; via the fairy tail of a royal coach pulled by four white corgi-horses with on board a Cinderella Princess, the time of a short dream, suddenly interrupted by a gun shot in the heart (« Cinderella ») ; also a beautiful and lyric impressionnist compositions on the grandpiano or harpsichord « The Smile of the Wolf on the Bench » (dedicated to Iorma Uotinen) or « Stop the World » played on a modified piano ; triggering shivers, performed by two sorcerers, a ritual of magic to call the nature's invisible forces  («Spenta Aramati ») ; incredible tangle of pure electronic sounds like a real electroconvulsive therapy with the wild very shrill and plaintive screams of the spirits-phantoms: the extraordinary beginning, introducing you to the backstage of a supernatural world, the « Nagual » ; and other little jewels ! an initiatory journey, bewitching and enchanted, as a spell built around Igor Wakhevitch’s keys where electronics give way to more acoustic sonorities (harpsichord, piano, etc.) Nevertheless remaining always on the rails of its trademark concept of electroacoustic flavour and inner relationship with mother nature and cosmic elements, works submitted to the listerns's perceptions (the Wings of the Perception). A truly outstanding and magical record !
